Its time to take off the ego's tinted glasses
Welcome to first Jai Yoga blog post! I’m going to be straight out honest with you. This is my eigth attempt at writing this blog post. This made me think, “wow Prem, you’re super judgemental about yourself.”
My self-judgement and self-criticism used to be much, much worse. I remember waking up every morning with a lot of self-doubt, anxiety and worry. I grew up with these sensations, so it felt wrong not to be anxious, worried or filled with doubt.
It was only until I (seriously) started a daily yoga practice in 2016, where I learned the tools to start loving myself fully. Day by day, yoga class by yoga class, my anxieties, worries and doubts started to drift away, piece by piece. I began to learn what self-love really felt like.
Back in the present moment, I am surprised at this sudden bout of self-judgement. Where did this come from? I thought I had gotten rid of this! Is self-judgement still a major part of who I am?
NOPE.
You see, one thing a daily yoga practice taught me was how the “ego” can distort your perception of reality. We all have an ego and if it didn’t exist, we’d be living in a peaceful utopia by now. Seriously.
What is the ego exactly? The ego is also known as “pride.” Pride give you tinted glasses, through which you see the world, distorting what you see. It doesn’t allow you to see the truth.
A daily yoga practice has the most amazing ability to quieten the mind and it allows you to connect to yourself with total awareness. It allows you to connect to yourself with total awareness. It allows you t learn more about yourself and self explore with total clarity.
With that, I am truly grateful for my daily practice for I no longer wake up anxious. I have a growing amount of self-awareness where I can recognize when my ego is playing up, so I can revert back to a place of self-love and non-judgement within my heart.
Life is too short to view it through the ego’s tinted glasses, so it’s best to take them off and enjoy life for all it is.
